July 22, 2016 Katrina McAlexander

What a lovely time to visit our farm, friends.  The flowers are blooming and all our fruit is growing well.  We are in the last weeks of pick your own cherries and will be moving into pick your own peaches soon.  Many of you have wanted to know when we are selling tickets for farm to table dinners on our farm this Summer and Autumn.  One of our farms core values is to be generous with our community and we have agreed to host 3 fundraisers this summer to share forward and partner with some amazing non-profits here in our home town.

The First event is July 30th, The Fresh Start Culinary school is going to be having a farm to table dinner to help with tuition for their new culinary students.

Mt. View Orchards and Fresh Start Culinary Arts Program are teaming up for a summer farm supper at the farm’s new dining venue, amidst 50 acres of pears, apples and cherries. The dinner on Saturday, July 30, 6:00 pm, features a romantic Italian buffet prepared by Fresh Start staff and students.

“Katrina McAlexander, the ‘grateful farmer’ at Mt. View Orchards, has given us her new venue for the night as a gift, and we are very excited to bring our Fresh Start friends and neighbors this dinner,” says Fresh Start chair Kathy Watson.

Fresh Start staff chefs Matt Patterson and Rainbow Trosper have created this Italian feast: for tickets head to this link.

Our First Farm Wedding

July 15, 2016 Katrina McAlexander

It is with great honor and joy to announce we hosted our first wedding in our orchard meadow at Mt. View Orchards this past Saturday.  Our first farm wedding was a dream come true and the lovely couple we hosted have some of the biggest hearts around.   I was compelled to run after this dream of building a wedding venue every since I was a little girl and I am so profoundly grateful to be finally here at the place of fulfillment.  The Hood River Valley and the Columbia River gorge have become quite the destination wedding location.  Being married in this fertile and rich valley at the base of Mt. Hood has been highly sought after for years. I am so happy to be included among such a lovely community of wedding venues and vendors and am thankful for all the support, encouragement and advice I received along the way.  We are booking for next season 2017 and have a promotional special that we will include all the tables, chairs and benches included with the price of the venue.  We offered a tiered pricing so you can elope, host up to 25 guests, host up to 75 guests or up to 160 guests may be apart of your special day(email for more information on pricing and what is included.).   For more information about getting married on our farm head to this link.  I am thrilled for our farm to be intimately connected with love stories, abundant harvests and families coming together. xoxo your grateful farmer, Trina   (Any questions? please email Ashley Brown my Venue Coordinator at mtvieworchardsweddings@gmail.com)

Anticipating Cherries at Mt View Orchards

June 17, 2016 Katrina McAlexander

I can hardly believe another year has past and we are going to be opening up are farm again to you all for "pick your own," 2016 cherry season on Friday, June 24th!.  We are getting many phone calls a day asking if its time to pick so I figured I would write about it this morning. We have a spectacular cherry crop this year which is a huge gift since last year our cherries got almost completely taken out by the 2014 November freeze.  This year in 2016 is the complete opposite problem.   We have had to do some thinning and propping up of limbs because they are so generously covered in sweet red cherries and Rainier cherries. Growing cherries is Parkdale is always a bit precarious but we love cherries and are willing to take the risk as farmers.  You never know what kind of crop you are going to get every year as a farmer and this year we are loaded!  We grow cherries 100% for our community and do not ship any of them.  We have Bings, Lapins, Lambert, Rainier and Sweetheart varieties. The price range depends on the amount of pounds purchased this year.  They are grown with love with our local community and All Fruit CSA in mind. We are opening up our farm stand on June 24th at 10am for the beginning of cherry season. Bring boxes or bags and picnic lunch and enjoy our farm. We are open this time of year Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays 10-5pm and Sundays from Noon-5pm. Hope to see you all soon! xoxo your grateful farmer, Trina

Honeycrisp apples are a favorite @mtvieworchards and today we are going to be sharing some forward with our local food bank. Apples are extremely rich in important antioxidants, flavanoids, and dietary fiber. The phytonutrients and antioxidants in apples may help reduce the risk of developing cancer, hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease. @mtvieworchards we believe everyone deserves to enjoy the best of our 2018 local apple harvests. We have them in our farm stand as well if you want to pick some up for your lunches. #mtvieworchards #afarmthatcares #afarmthatgathers #afarmthatgivesback #apples #honeycrisps
