Its been a really blissful week here on the farm. Kenny and I have been pulling out older stumps and planting new donut peach trees. We are in full blossom bloom and the bees are happily buzzing around the farm pollinating all our fruit trees and vines. Everything we grow requires bees to turn blossoms into baby fruitlets and we absolutely adore bees here at Mt View Orchards. We love being farmers and are huge bee fans.

We love growing fruit for our community as well as hosting farm to table dinners on the farm featuring our fresh fruits. We grow a large variety of fruits including cherries, berries, peaches, grapes, nectarines, plums, apples, quince and pears. We were not able to host dinners last year but are looking forward to hosting a few events this year so follow along for socially distanced ticketed events starting in May for mothers day.

I have been keeping a secret since last September that Top Chef was here for their Portland series and they hosted an episode here in the heart of our farm as a tribute to the Fruit Loop and our many fruit harvests. It was a really fun episode were their talented chefs ran through out our upick sections of our farm picking fruit for their all fruit dishes. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine a favorite show of mine airing in our farm and we were beyond grateful and thrilled to open up our farm like a living room to have them highlight the Hood River Fruit Loop here in the Upper Hood River Valley.

I want to warmly invite you all to come and visit our farm this spring. The Tulips fields are in full bloom as our the fruit blossoms. Come experience are farm hospitality in our Tasting Room at the Grateful Vineyard Tasting Room. Also join us for our Mothers Day Tea on May 9th 10-12pm in our Mt View Orchards wooden pavilion. We are hosting some guest chefs this summer too so stay tuned for tickets to these delicious culinary events. We also host weddings here to head to this link to learn more.

Hello Spring

April 17, 2021 Katrina McAlexander
Good News, Our Peach Blossoms are in bloom on the farm.

Good News, Our Peach Blossoms are in bloom on the farm.

Hello Grateful readers, I just got back from a long haul trip to and from Kentucky with Kenny (my partner) yesterday afternoon and the farm was absolutely stunning and full of new life as we pulled in. Huge shout out to my amazing parents and hard working team for holding down the fort while we were on a cross county mission to bring home an affordable gooseneck trailer for hauling fruit and cases of wine. The Hood River Valley is in full bloom( join us by heading south on hwy 35 towards Mt Hood) At MVO our blossoms start with our bright pink peach blossoms. Next our pear trees bloom. Soon after our apple trees.

Our New baby trees our ready to be planted this coming month. O’henry peaches, pluerries, pluots, rainier cherries, pie cherries and white nectarines.

I love springtime as a farmer and look forward to this time of year all winter long when our trees are dormant and asleep. For farming is a profession of hope and it is a really dreamy time to come visit our tasting room and farm. I love the seasonality of farming and warmly invite you all to come visit us at our Tasting room all year long. We do have some Bosc pears at 50cents a pound at our farm stand by apt only. We sell our beer, wine and cider to go as well so stop by and stock up for some warm sipping outside in the sunshine. Springtime in Parkdale is not to be missed and I hope to see you all here soon.

(See below for some information about at Mothers Day Tea happening on May 9th at our event space)

Fridays on the Farm April 9th 2021

Springtime on the farm is never boring for us farmers. We are currently pruning back our riesling grape vines and eagerly are awaiting another batch of sparking riesling from our estate vineyard this coming fall. Good news, our vines are young but we are just beginning the exciting journey of wine making at Grateful. We plan on finishing our trellising this year all our rows. So far we have just over 4 acres planted in Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Riesling grapes soon to be enjoyed at Grateful. We have also planted some Gamay noir and Cabernet Franc as well. Cheers to drinking our estate wine soon.

We are watching to see when our peach blossoms- a bright pink blossom will pop. They are such a sign of hope for me and signal the first big celebration of spring on the farm. Next will be the pear blossoms, then cherries and lastly apples. We are planting new babies trees, seeds and bulbs too this time of year. We are excited to welcome more donut peaches, white nectarines, pluerries, pluots, more pie cherries and more rainier cherries. We are also planting a wildflower field and our sunflower fields as well. We plant our dahlia field in May. Fresh Fruit, veggies, flowers and all the abundance of summer harvests is in our hearts.

Carlos wishing everyone a happy weekend. Come visit him soon.

We are making strawberry rhubarb jam and preparing for our farm stand opening around the 4th of July with upick cherries (we still have some bosc/anjou pears available if you are needing some fruit now.) Did you know we use special recipes my amazing farming mother, Ruthie has formed to feature our farm fresh fruit with less sugar than traditional jams so the fruit can really shine through. Our jams are a dream come true on anything or by the spoonful.

We are making hard cider now to prepare for a busy summer season here on the farm.

So hopeful to see these tulip blooms soon here on the farm. We have 20.002 bulbs growing every single day. Hopeful for the end of the month. Stay tuned. #pinchme

I am excited to see when our first tulip field will be in bloom and I am thinking we the tulips be wide open by end of the April. We planted a variety of colors and it will be a stunning field of rainbow goodness. We allow photography during our business hours. Please email thegratefulfarmer@gmail.com if you want to make a private appointment or session here.
