Friends of our Farm

April 15, 2017 Katrina McAlexander

In the above photo my baby brother Ryan and I are surrounding a dear friend of our farm, Jane at at a Portland Market!  She had recently picked up her All Fruit CSA box and a Mt. View Orchards truckers hat.  This picture makes me really happy because Jane has been sending me encouraging messages, emails and texts since I bought my families farm in 2014! She has been one of my most consistent encouragers and has been championing my small business farming from its conception. As a new farmer that really means the world!

Farming is a solitary profession often times.  When I am out cutting grass on the farm, I am on a cutter for hours alone with my thoughts and prayers.  One of my favorite aspects of farming is the relationships I build with families and friends who believe in my farming dream and want to get their fruit from our small family farm.  I cannot be a farmer without friends of my farm.  A wholehearted thank you to everyone for making Mt. View Orchards your farm.  I love being your farmer!

I am grateful today for all our CSA members who re-up every year and follow each harvest season. There are not enough words to express my gratitude.

I am grateful today for our new CSA members who have made the commitment to back up a local farm. Welcome, welcome!  Looking forward to getting to know you all better.

I am grateful for everyone who comes out and visits our farm stand multiple times in the Summer and Fall.  We are looking forward to u-pick cherry seasons with all our hearts(July!)

I am grateful for all the restaurants, breweries, farm to table dinners and big stores who use Fruit Harvests from Mt. View Orchards.

I am grateful for the budding blossoms and the hope of a future harvest.

I am grateful for all the Weddings that are happening this year at our Venue.  I went out on a huge limb to build this and I am so relieved this venture is a wild success!

Grateful that Golden Row Cider is growing in popularity and that we are going to get them into cans and or bottles this year.

I am grateful for our amazing employees who wrapped up our pruning season.  Can I just say I think i have the best people around living and serving on this farm and they did an amazing job shaping our trees this year for the 2017 harvest season.  Hella proud farmer!

I am grateful for my amazing parents and partners in crime.  My dad is currently filling out a really complicated government form and plotting to get rid of all predator birds on this farm(ha). My amazing mother is finishing up a nutrient dense spray for our cherries and peaches today with a smile.

Thank you for befriending Mt. View Orchards, friends.  We are more than honored and care so deeply about growing food for you households, forever! xo Trina your grateful farmer.

The grateful farmer is a blog about a woman who left her job in the the city to come home to save the family farm.  My desire is to candidly share my journey learning how to farm a 50 acre Orchard at the base of Mt. Hood. I invite you to follow along as I share seasonal recipes, childhood memories, farming successes and failures. Please enjoy the Orchard photos collaging the beautiful seasons and harvests here at Mt. View Orchards. I am grateful and humbled that are you are reading along and want you to know that my farm is your farm.

Honeycrisp apples are a favorite @mtvieworchards and today we are going to be sharing some forward with our local food bank. Apples are extremely rich in important antioxidants, flavanoids, and dietary fiber. The phytonutrients and antioxidants in apples may help reduce the risk of developing cancer, hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease. @mtvieworchards we believe everyone deserves to enjoy the best of our 2018 local apple harvests. We have them in our farm stand as well if you want to pick some up for your lunches. #mtvieworchards #afarmthatcares #afarmthatgathers #afarmthatgivesback #apples #honeycrisps
